Yesterday, we biked the North Branch Trail System from Golf Road to Chicago Botanic Gardern. This was the second time we biked this trail but it is only now that I was able to take a video.
The North Branch Bicycle Trail is a Class I bicycle trail and starts at Caldwell and Devon Avenues in Chicago, and continues north approximately 20 miles to Lake County, Illinois.
The trail winds along the North Branch of the Chicago River and the Skokie Lagoons, providing access to various picnic groves, golf courses and also the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Located in Schaumburg, Il this 9 mile paved trail loops around Poplar Creek Forest Preserve, passing through scenic forest areas and meadows. It is quite similar to Busse Woods with some moderate up and down grades.
Busse Woods has a paved bike trail that winds through the forest and meadows around Busse Lake. You can also fish on several fishing walls on the lake. It's a 11.2 mile long trail with the Red Trail loop running at 7.7 miles.
Having completed biking the northern portion of Des Plaines River Trail in Cook County, we continued on to the Lake County part starting with Half Day Woods.
Monday being a holiday, my son and I decided to bike part of the Des Plaines River Trail. It was so hot that day that I have to stop 5 times to rest and rehydrate.
After biking the North portion of the Des Plaines Trail System, my son and I decided to bike the trail going South. Unfortunately, it rained the previous day and so the trail was muddy. I wouldn't recommend the bike trail from Big Bend Lake going South because it seems that it is not being maintained. And there were a lot of mosquitos too.
My son and I decided to go biking on the Des Plaines Trail System last Memorial Day, May 31, 2010. We got rained out but we enjoyed the ride. Here's a short video I created.
I've got nothing to do today so I went biking to Big Bend Lake. Big Bend Lake is a boating and fishing lake in Des Plaines, Illinois and very near my place.
Here is a satellite photo of Big Bend Lake.
My bike.
Part of Big Bend.
Ducks or geese?
There were very a few people there today, maybe less than 10. I think I'll gonna frequent this place.
I didn't catch any fish though. Why? Because I don't have my fishing gear with me. ;-) That reminds me I should include a fishing kit in my survival kit. Next time maybe.
